Peugeot Rally Academy drivers perform strongly in Germany

1 Mins read

Peugeot Rally Academy drivers José Antonio ‘Cohete’ Suárez and Jordan Berfa both put in strong performances at the 2016 Rallye Deutschland.

Cohete and his co-driver Candido Carrera put in a solid performance despite having suffered a puncture on Friday’s SS4 and a spin on Saturday SS8 in his 208T16.

Cohete regained his confidence in the Peugeot by stringing together a sequence of top three WRC2 times on Saturday, whilst claiming the same result on Sunday’s final stages in Germany to finish in fourteenth place.

Suárez said post-Rallye Deutschland “Saturday wasn’t easy because the conditions kept changing all the time but I’m very happy with our performance. The Peugeot 208T16 was competitive and reliable and we might have been able to challenge for a top-three finish in WRC2 had it not been for the puncture we picked up on the first day. I can hardly wait for my next event with the Peugeot Rally Academy in Corsica.”

In the WRC3 category, France’s Jordan Berfa recovered from an early crash on Friday’s SS2 to come back with an eleventh-placed finish, ahead of Norway’s Ole Christian Veiby.

The Frenchman with co-driver Damien Augustin achieved his objective of mixing with the very best in the WRC3 category, whilst gaining more rally experience in the process in the 208R2 to finish the rally in eleventh.

Berfa added “We managed to recover from our early crash to gauge ourselves against the class’s experts and gain more experience in the Peugeot 208R2 ahead of the next round in Corsica where we will be on home soil.”
