Tristan Ovenden extended his lead in the 2016 Super1600 Championship to 12 points by winning the latest round at Lydden Hill.
In his home race, the Super1600 class was combined with the Super National class meaning the Championship Leader finished in the qualifying rounds the fastest Super1600 driver in sixth.
However, in bizarre circumstances, the rest of the field were stricken with mechanical problems, handing the race win to Ovenden in his under-powered car, who now extends his championship lead to Craig Lomax by 12 points coming into the final two rounds of the 2016 season.
Ovenden said “I’m a bit speechless! I had never thought at this point of the season I would in contention, People forget that to win championships you need to be consistent. We may be down on power with the rest of the grid, but we are showing that reliability is just as important.
“As always thanks to my supporters and sponsors who I hope are enjoying this season as much as I am!”
