Scott Malvern will make his return to single-seater competition this weekend as he aims to put his name in the record books as a two-time winner of the Formula Ford Festival.
Malvern won the illustrious Brands Hatch event back in 2011, capping off a season in which he’d also won the British and European Formula Ford Championships.
After winning the 2012 Formula Renault BARC title, the 27 year old has since raced in GT competition, contesting the British GT Championship this year.
The Barkingside-based racer will made his Festival return with renowned Dutch outfit Geva Racing, who have won numerous titles in Formula Ford competition across Europe.
“I didn’t expect to be racing at the Festival again, but then Geva Racing got in touch and made me an offer that was too good to refuse,” said Malvern.
“Winning the Festival has always eluded them and they are determined to put that right. Ironically, they came closest as runner up to me in 2011, and I will be driving that very car of theirs five years on.
“Obviously I am a former champion so some would say that there will be a high level of expectation resting on my shoulders, but I don’t mind that. No-one can take away what I did in 2011.
“I will be taking nothing for granted though. These big end of season events are highly competitive, everyone on the track is out to win, so we will have to see how we get on.
“I’ve love driving in British GT, but single-seaters is where I started out and made my name, so it is great to be able to keep my hand in by returning to them every once in a while.”
