Hugo de Sadeleer ended his Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season strongly with a podium finish in race one and seventh in race two at a damp Estoril.

The Tech 1 Racing driver secured sixth place in the Drivers’ standings with his results in Portugal and helped his team clinch second place in the Teams’ standings, with his podium on Saturday coming from thirteenth on the grid and with having taken damage to his front wing early on.

De Sadeleer was able to resist the challenge of Robert Shwartzman despite the damage, and he was delighted to add the podium to his double podium at Spa-Francorchamps in the previous round.

“In starting 13th on the grid, this podium is a bit unexpected,” said de Sadeleer on renaultsport.com. “I think I made the right judgements on the first lap and the restarts because I picked up positions each time.

“But, unfortunately I broke my wing on the second restart when the field was bunched together, but I was able to finish the race despite the attacks of Robert Shwartzman.

“It is a great joy to take a third consecutive podium and I want to thank the team.”

De Sadeleer returned to the track on Sunday for the final race of the season and finished seventh, which included a good move to overtake Harrison Scott.
