Maurin fails to finish in top ten for WRC2 in Spain

1 Mins read

Julien Maurin finished outside the top ten in the WRC2 category at the 2016 Rally Catalunya.

Maurin showed good pace on the mixed surface gravel and asphalt stages, but a few mistakes cost him a potential top-ten finish in Salou, finishing eleventh.

This was Maurin’s final appearance in WRC2 this year, for which Spain was the last rally that the Frenchman will compete in the support category above the World Rally Championship.

“We had good pace on Saturday morning to confirm our third place and we got trapped in a rope.

“We were perfectly positioned to achieve this goal. This is all the more annoying that we did not take too much risk due to differences.

“This cost us a podium finish. This is not the way we wanted to finish the WRC2 programme. While we were competitive on both gravel and asphalt, the season has been relatively mixed.

“We were unlucky and made small mistakes in the season that we paid for. There have been good times, good pace and great battles in the WRC2 category, which is highly competitive. This is what I want to remember and I thank all the people who supported us (Valentin Sarreaud) during the year.”
