Colton Herta ended his rookie EuroFormula Open campaign with a fourth victory of the season at the Circuit de Catalunya, and coupled with a second place in race one confirmed himself in third place in the Drivers’ Championship.
The young American was on good form all weekend at the Spanish circuit, starting race one from pole position and leading for a long spell of the race before being pitched into a spin by Dorian Boccolacci, for which the Frenchman took a penalty that promoted Herta back up to second having finished on the road in third.
Starting second on Sunday, the sixteen-year-old Carlin driver took the lead at the start and withstood the close attention all race long from Ferdinand Habsburg to take the victory, and end the season in the best possible fashion.
“We’ve had such a strong weekend again here,” said Herta. “To win today on top of a P2 yesterday is great and I’m so thankful to Carlin for all the work and giving me a great car.
“Four wins, six podiums and five pole positions; we’ve come on so strong at the end of the year. It’s great to see the progress we’ve made.”
