Leonardo Pulcini clinched the 2016 EuroFormula Open title in perfect fashion as he took his seventh victory of the season at the Circuito de Jerez on Sunday.

The Italian had finished second in race one on Saturday behind Colton Herta after a late race pass on Damiano Fioravanti to put one hand on the title, but then jumped pole sitter and his final rival for the championship Ferdinand Habsburg to triumph in race two.

Pulcini thanked his Campos Racing team for their efforts throughout the season, and is now looking forward to the final two races of the season at the Circuit de Catalunya this weekend as he bids to add to his seven victories.

“Thanks go to my team, Campos Racing, because they were very supportive throughout the season,” said Pulcini on camposracing.com. “They have done an excellent work. My engineer and my mechanics worked perfectly with me and we made a quantum leap.

“Our weekends always ran almost perfectly. We always finished first or second. We worked hand-in-hand and it resulted in a fantastic title. Thank you very much Adrián Campos and Adri Campos Jr!”

Team boss Adrian Campos Jr was delighted to see his driver take the title as well to add to the Teams’ title Campos Racing have taken in 2016, and feels they continue to grow as a team within the category every year.

“we are extremely happy,” admitted Campos Jr.  “We managed to make steady progress in the series every year after returning to compete in the EuroFormula Open. We finished fourth on our first year, then third and finally we finished vice champions in 2015. Now, we have won both titles. That´s where we belong!

“Congratulations to the Champ! Leo completed an excellent season. He was very strong. His worst result was a fourth place, so it explains his marvellous season. Our engineers and mechanics performed at a level bordering perfection. His engineer, Germán Sánchez, won the series as a racing driver and now as our Chief Engineer. It is something unique”.
