Alex Peroni secured a maiden Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship pole position as he set the fastest time in the second qualifying session around the streets of Pau on Sunday morning.

The Australian set the pace in the first of two groups, with his lap of 1:12.842 giving him and Fortec Motorsports their first pole position of the year as the second group were unable to better his time.

Joining Peroni on the front row will be Josef Kaufmann Racing’s Sacha Fenestraz, who topped the second group with a 1:12.901, while race one winner Robert Shwartzman and championship leader Will Palmer will form an all R-ace GP second row.

Max Fewtrell was the leading rookie during the session, with the Tech 1 Racing ace set to start fifth, with Max Defourny, a podium finisher for R-ace GP during Saturday’s opening race, sixth on the grid this time around.

Gabriel Aubry, who finished third on Saturday, will begin race two from seventh for Tech 1 Racing, and he will be joined on the fourth row by highly rated Red Bull Junior Richard Verschoor, who represents MP Motorsport, while Aleksandr Vartanyan and Daniel Ticktum will share row five despite the latter causing a red flag during his session and losing his best time as a result.
