Daniel Ticktum admitted he could have defended more aggressively during Sunday’s second Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship race at Silverstone, but the Arden International driver did not want to risk too much in doing so.
Having finished tenth in race one, Ticktum drove into the lead at the start of race two, but a small mistake allowed Robert Shwartzman the opportunity to pass him, which he did while Will Palmer also found a way passed his countryman.
But Ticktum was not to be denied third, holding off Max Defourny and Max Fewtrell to take his first series podium in just his fourth outing.
“That was a really good day, it feels great to be on the podium in only my second race weekend in this series and with a new team,” said Ticktum. “I did get to the front early on in Race 2 and I could have been a bit more aggressive defending that but I wanted to finish, wanted to get a good race in the bank.
“We really made progress with the car this weekend and I can’t wait to continue this momentum into Pau and Monaco, two street circuits that I’m really looking forward to driving, I feel that they could really suit my style.”
