Will Palmer secured two fourth place finishes around the streets of Pau last weekend but saw himself replaced at the top of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship by Robert Shwartzman, who took a victory and a third place around the French circuit.

Palmer could not add to his two victories from the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and Silverstone in France, with his R-ace GP team-mate Shwartzman taking advantage to hit the top of the standings, albeit by just one point heading into the races in Monaco this weekend, with the team-mates well clear of the rest of the field.

Despite losing the lead in the championship, Palmer admitted to enjoying his experience around Pau, and felt that he had a strong weekend during both qualifying and the races.

“I’ve really enjoyed racing at Pau this weekend, the track is amazing to drive and the atmosphere is great as well,” said Palmer. “We scored some strong points with two fourth places, and generally had very strong pace, qualifying only a few hundredths off the top of my group.

“It’s also good preparation for the street race at Monaco next weekend which I’m really looking forward to.”
