Fuoco Disqualified from Monza Feature Race, Boschung Inherits Sprint Race Pole

Antonio Fuoco has been disqualified from the Feature race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Saturday after stewards deemed that he had used a non-compliant throttle map at the start.

The Charouz Racing System driver had already been handed a five-second penalty post-race for track limit offences, but his eighth-place finish has now been removed completely from the record books as a result of the rule break.

The illegal throttle map was deemed to be a breach of Technical Bulletin BT 18 008, and as a result he was disqualified from the final result, although he will be allowed to start the Sprint race on Sunday from the back of the grid.

It ends a terrible day for the Charouz Racing System team, who saw Louis Delétraz finish well outside the points at Monza after running across the gravel trap exiting the second chicane early on and losing a lot of ground and positions.

Eighth-place and pole position for Sunday’s Sprint race now goes to MP Motorsport’s Ralph Boschung, while both Nyck de Vries and Luca Ghiotto each gain a point by moving up to ninth and tenth for Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing and Campos Vexatec Racing respectively.

Boschung will be pleased with the promotion into eighth after being one of only three drivers to start the Feature race on the Medium Pirelli tyre, which turned out to be an inspired choice for another driver in Tadasuke Makino, who went on to take his maiden FIA Formula 2 championship victory for Russian Time despite having started fourteenth on the grid.
