German David Beckmann has stepped into the number 11 car for Trident’s FIA Formula 3 team after Devlin DeFrancesco left the team.

The reasons for the Canadian’s exit are as yet unclear but the Milan-based Trident team have been fortunate to call upon the 20-year-old who raced for ART in 2019.

He scored 20 points in a 14th placed finish last season but claimed multiple podiums and race wins with Trident in 2018’s GP3 Series.

Speaking after the announcement, Beckmann said: “I am very motivated and proud to be back with Trident. They’re a team that always believed in me and supported me in achieving extremely positive results. I established a strong relationship with the Team Trident family, so I am looking forward to reaching even more ambitious goals soon.”

Beckmann will join fellow German Lirim Zendeli and Brit Olli Caldwell to create the three-pronged attack for the Italian squad and team boss Giacomo Ricci is delighted with the acquisition.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome David Beckmann back to our team. We always had great chemistry with him, and I am confident that we will be once again among the contenders for the FIA Formula 3 Championship, a pivotal series in the motorsport ladder.

“We will need to put up our maximum effort and to look at every possible element. This series is incredibly competitive, and even the slightest detail can be decisive.”

The trio will be back racing again next weekend when F3 and the road to F1 resumes at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
