Having just turned eighteen yesterday, Caio Collet set the fastest ever FIA Formula 3 lap around the Red Bull Ring to end the two-day pre-season test on top.

The Brazilian, part of the Alpine F1 driver academy, set a 1:18:592 in his MP Motorsport car to end the day over a tenth clear of the field. His teammate Victor Martins had been quick in the morning but the Frenchman didn’t set a lap in the afternoon.

Second in an afternoon session which saw plenty of running was PREMA’s Dennis Hauger. The Norwegian was only 28th in the morning as snow limited the running for many but he was back at the sharp end come the day’s chequered flag.

It was another highly impressive day for Hitech GP’s 15-year-old rookie Jak Crawford who was third fastest in the afternoon and fifth in the morning. He was followed by his 2020 ADAC Formula 4 rival, and eventual champion, Jonny Edgar who has been the standout Carlin driver so far.

Those four were all faster than the morning’s benchmark time, set by Jenzer’s returning Australian Calan Williams who has high hopes of a good season in the turquoise of the Italian team.

Matteo Nannini was incredibly consistent all day with his morning time less than two hundredths quicker than his afternoon effort as the young Italian led the way for HWA Racelab.

Frederik Vesti, Clément Novalak, Michael Belov and Olli Caldwell all snuck under the 1m 19s barrier in the afternoon with Kaylen Frederick, Logan Sargeant and Martins all doing so in the afternoon. Only Aleksandr Smolyar could manage that on day one.

Smolyar was tenth fastest in the afternoon for ART just behind Caldwell’s PREMA with Amaury Cordeel just outside the top ten for Campos.

It was another tough day for Arthur Leclerc however as the Monegasque driver was slowest in the morning, but could only climb to 18th in the afternoon while his teammates were firmly in the top ten. Jack Doohan also didn’t trouble the top of the time sheets like many will have expected for his new Trident team.
