For the second day in succession, Victor Martins was the fastest man on track as the FIA Formula 3 teams completed their two-day pre-season test in Barcelona.

The 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup champion shaved another tenth off his time sheet topping lap of yesterday’s afternoon to ensure he leaves the Catalan circuit as the man to beat.

The MP Motorsport and Alpine Academy driver set a 1:31:636 in today’s (Thursday’s) morning session to again end the day fastest, but the rest of the pack certainly closed in with Aleksandr Smolyar just over a tenth shy of the Frenchman’s pace.

Smolyar has been impressing for ART and often outperformed his highly-ranked Mercedes Junior teammate Frederik Vesti in testing and did so again with the Dane only eighth.

Jack Doohan continued his fine form having moved to Trident from HWA Racelab ending the day third ahead of Logan Sargeant, who continued to step in for Charouz with two seats still to fill at the Czech team.

Doohan’s teammate Clément Novalak was fifth quickest as he mirrored Doohan’s running for much of the day. Matteo Nannini led the way for HWA in sixth with Ayumu Iwasa sneaking into the top ten in seventh for Hitech GP.

Behind Vesti in eighth came PREMA’s lead driver Dennis Hauger who is tipped for a title challenge this year while Juan Manuel Correa continued his return to racing in tenth for ART.

As temperatures rose in the afternoon, much of the field settled into long runs and that saw the times drop significantly as Calan Williams headed Iwasa, Pierre-Louis Chovet and Roman Stanek in a Jenzer Motorsport and Hitech GP-filled top four. Caio Collet rounded out the top five as Nannini achieved a pair of sixth places for the day. The Italian will remain in Barcelona to take on the three-day FIA Formula 2 test which starts tomorrow.
