The second day of FIA Formula 2 testing at Barcelona saw the less likely drivers top the times with Richard Verschoor quickest for MP Motorsport.
The Dutchman is still on a part-time basis for the 2021 season as he hopes to find the necessary budget to make this drive a permanent one.
He scored 18 points at the opening round of the year in Bahrain in an impressive display where he comfortably outscored his teammate Lirim Zendeli.
Ralph Boschung and Campos struggled in Bahrain but they were on it under the Spanish sun ending the day second quickest, just under two tenths down on Verschoor’s 1:28:280.
Felipe Drugovich was the first of the true front runners in third for UNI-Virtuosi as his teammate and championship leader Guanyu Zhou languished down in 12th.
DAMS showed an upturn in speed too as Marcus Armstrong was fourth fastest and Roy Nissany sixth for the French team.
Bent Viscaal was another driver who was higher than expected as he split the DAMS duo in his Trident.
Théo Pourchaire led the ART duo in seventh after Christian Lundgaard had topped both sessions yesterday. He was ninth behind Zendeli as Liam Lawson rounded out the top ten.
Much like the opening day, PREMA and Carlin were mired in the midfield as they kept their cards hidden despite Formula 2 not racing at the Barcelona circuit this season.
The afternoon was again slower than the morning but there were still surprises at the top of the times as David Beckmann led a Charouz one-two ahead of Guilherme Samaia.
Verschoor was again quick in third ahead of Boschung’s Campos teammate Gianluca Petecof while Matteo Nannini also made a rare top ten appearance for HWA Racelab.
