The 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship calendar has been confirmed, with the FIA tweaking the weekend layout to a previous format. Supporting its parent Formula 1 championship at a total of 14 rounds, each round will consist of two races – Sprint and Feature. This means that there will be a total of 28 F2 races in 2022, making it the most stacked calendar since the re-launch of the Championship in 2017.

The season will kick-off in Sakhir at the Bahrain International Circuit in March, with the second round a week later in Saudi Arabia on the Jeddah streets. Following a four week break, the championship will resume at Imola followed by a double header in Barcelona and Monaco in the month of May.

The streets of Baku will welcome F2 back at the start of June, whilst July will be busy with three race weekends! Starting at Silverstone, the paddock will then travel to Austria a week later with the Hungaroring taking the final July weekend on 29-31st.

After the scheduled summer break, we’ll be treated to a triple header of Formula 2 action starting at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of August. The orange army will return at Zandvoort the following week, with the third and final race being at the tifosi’s home in Monza.

The final two rounds of the season will be hosted in Sochi at the end of September with a frustrating two month break before the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in November.

“I am pleased to present the largest calendar we have ever had in Formula 2, with 14 rounds and 28 races. This results from a strong will from our stakeholders to have F2 race alongside as many Formula 1 Grand Prix as possible,” said F2 CEO Bruno Michel.

“A lot of circuits have expressed their interest to have our championship added to their race weekend programme, but for costs reasons, we cannot increase the number of rounds more than we already have.”

“This calendar will of course induce an increase of our teams’ budgets, but we will support them so that they are able to manage the extra costs.”
