Marcus Armstrong has completed the Hitech Grand Prix driver line-up for the 2022 FIA Formula 2 championship after making the switch from DAMS where he won his first race and finished thirteenth overall in 2021.
The 21-year-old tested for the British racing team in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi. He ended up in the top ten for three out of the six sessions including a third place in the fourth session.
Armstrong took his first F2 win in Jeddah, nearly following it up with another win in Abu Dhabi had it not been for a mechanical issue which saw the New Zealander forced to retire from the lead. He also took second place podium at Silverstone earlier in the year.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Hitech this season in Formula 2. Team Principal Oliver Oakes brought me to Europe a few years back and I saw Hitech in the early days,” Armstrong said.
“Since then, it’s transformed into one of the powerhouses of Formula 2 and 3. I’m looking forward to be working with a successful group of people and giving it everything I’ve got in my new Hitech team this year.”
Armstrong is coming off the recent announcement of his depature from the Ferrari Driver Academy and will be partnered with Jüri Vips who continues with Hitech for another season. The coming season will mark his third in F2, and if he continues how he left off in 2021, it may be his best.
