After a stellar drive to win the Spielberg Feature Race, Richard Verschoor has been disqualified by the stewards after Trident were unable to provide the required post-race fuel sample to race scrutineers.
Second-place man Jehan Daruvala was also handed a post-race penalty, with the PREMA Racing driver slapped with a drive through penalty which was converted to a 20-second penalty due to it being handed out after the race.
The stewards found that the Italian racing outfit team had made attempts to dry the track surface at Daruvala’s grid slot ahead of the race.
With the disqualification and penalty applied to the finishing classification, it means that the Carlin and Williams junior driver, Logan Sargeant, is promoted to the top step of the podium and wins his second consecutive Feature Race of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 season.
On the mention of a potential championship challenge following his recent form, the American said in the post-race press conference, “I’m just giving it 100% every time I go out there.”
“I think today was a good example that, we could have called it early on in that race that it was over and weren’t going to come back through but we just never gave up. And it’s what I’m going to keep doing.”
Enzo Fittipaldi, who finished fourth on track, is promoted into second place for his best Feature Race result yet and third podium of the season.
There is also joy for Roberto Merhi who completes the podium after finishing second on track but missed out on the podium celebrations due to receiving a five-second penalty for track-limit violations towards the latter stages of the race.
It marks the first podium for the Spaniard since his final race in Formula 2 back in 2018 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
