Only one start has been made with the new Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 so far since its introduction back in late 2022 when the 2021 WRC2 champion Andreas Mikkelsen from Norway won the German Lausitz Rallye during the autumn. Although time has passed since the car was homologated and so far only two cars have been approved to compete,
The German Toksport WRT team, which runs Skoda’s venture in the WRC2 class, has taken over two cars, one of which has therefore competed, but no car has yet gone into the WRC, let alone to other teams and drivers. They work to guarantee the availability of spare parts before they dare to deliver cars.
At the same time, large test programs continue to fine-tune and find settings for several surfaces to provide the best support to their customers who will compete on all the different surfaces in the world. Right now, Skoda Motorsport is in Greece, and testing on roads like the Acropolis Rally is decided on.
The manufacturer’s two test drivers, Finnish 2022 WRC2 champion Emil Lindholm and Briton Kris Meeke have been in Greece and tested. There are many indications that Lindholm is under continued contract with Skoda in 2023. The Finn was predicted to move towards a role as a test driver at Toyota together with a Rally1 outing for the factory. But the autumn test job indicates a continuation with Skoda and WRC2 campaign in 2023. At the same time, told in different media, Meeke hopes for some entry into the WRC in 2023 with the car he has been with and tested.
