The 2022 Forum8 Rally Japan winner in the WRC2 class Gregoire Munster from Luxembourg has now revealed he is eyeing a full-season campaign in the class next year.

The 23-year-old took his maiden podium finish by winning in Japan last time out, becoming the first success for the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 driver since the FIA World Rally Championship debut in 2019.

The win was well earned as he selected the right tires for the rainy final day of the rally, overturning a 56.3 seconds deficit after outpacing the Finnish rivals Emil Lindholm and Sami Pajari by over a minute apiece.

“Japan was incredible, I think we showed good pace all of the weekend, but it was a big, big effort from the team and my whole family. The [weather] conditions made it difficult, but we were able to push hard when we needed to and we made the right decision for the tires.” Munster said.

“This was a good way to end the year. We did some good rallies this season and next year, I would like to continue to make some more kilometers in the WRC – it would be a dream to do a full [WRC2] season. I know we need to take some more experience at this level, but Japan was more equal for everybody with the roads and the stages being new for us all, and the gap was closed.”
