M-Sport Ford WRT has announced that they will be putting two Ford Fiesta Rally2 on the start line at the 2023 season-opener in Rallye Monte-Carlo in its own WRC2 effort, with the Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux who will be the leader of the team and drive a full season in the WRC2 series as he steps down from the main factory team.
Fourmaux has plenty of experience in the WRC2 class, he competed for M-Sport in the class between 2019 and 2021 where he has clinched a total of 33 WRC2 stage wins and six WRC2 podiums before he got promoted to drive in the WRC team. The 2021 season went well for him but during this season he has lost ground as he has been forced to retire from many rallies.
With him, he gets 23-year-old Gregoire Munster from Luxembourg, who changes from his private Hyundai to M-Sport Ford, after three seasons in Hyundai with victories in the bag with the recent one in Rally Japan that sparked his career, he charges for a change of team.
The plan is still to drive a lot for the talented Gregoire who comes from the iconic Munster rally family, father Bernard Munster has run the team and was long predicted to be in the running to take over Hyundai Motorsport’s WRC2 venture with their own BMA team.
“I’m really pleased to be part of the team for the fourth year in a row, and I’m looking forward to being back in Monte-Carlo next month, we have the opportunity to do an event with the Fiesta Rally2 just after Christmas which will be perfect preparation for Monte-Carlo.” Fourmaux said.
“The facilities and infrastructure [at Dovenby] are fantastic; the workshop and the new building are quite impressive. The track was very nice to drive on as well, especially with the icy conditions,” Munster said.
“The plan for next year is to compete in a lot of events in the Rally2, making use of my previous experience and discovering some events for the first time. I need to adapt to the car and want to perform well and get some good results.”
