With the Jones brothers’ departure to McLaren GT newboys Fortec Motorsport start the season as the only team taking the burbling, gull-winged Mercedes SLS to Oulton Park, with just a single car’s worth of drivers confirmed at the time of writing.
Fortec Motorsport
#14 – Jason Minshaw/James Walker
#15 – TBA/TBA
Renowned in the various single seater formulae expanding into GT racing is a big step for Richard Dutton’s Fortec squad. It is almost certain – in all fairness to the Jones brothers – that the full potential of the SLS in Britain remains to be seen. With Walker confirmed – at least for Oulton – after winter testing the team start the year with a driver to tap the long-snouted SLS. Alongside him, Jason Minshaw (brother of Trackspeed’s Jon) adds an element of sibling rivalry, while the identity (or presence at all) of drivers for the team’s second car remains a mystery.
And the rest…
Nissan
JRM Racing have already confirmed two cars for Oulton Park with Mark Cole and Jody Fannin each given their own GT3 Nissan GT-R for the weekend as they search of the budget for a full season.
Meanwhile, though penalised out of a full season campaign in Britain and opting for a European campaign instead RJN Motorsport have not ruled out flying visits to the British GT paddock. After running a half season brothers Benji and Freddie Hetherington’s white Nissan, run for them by JMH Automotive remains unused for the start of 2013.
Lamborghini
Despite announcing a full season campaign during the winter Rhino’s Leipert Motorsport’s Lamborghini is missing from the Oulton Park list after entering three weekends of the 2012 with drivers Marco Attard – now at Ecurie Ecosse – Marcel Leipert and Hari Proczyk.
Bentley
M-Sport Racing’s entry into British GT is known to be a preparation for running the GT3 version of the Bentley Continental next season. However, with Bentley aiming for a track debut late this season will the car make an early appearance this season?
