Leon Camier 11th in Portimao qualifying

1 Mins read

2009 British Superbike Champion Leon Camier put it a solid perfomance today riding the Aprilia RSV4, standing in for the injured Shinja Nakano.

Despite being new to the Portimao track the British rider put in some great laps making it through to Superpole 2, finishing the session in 11th spot.

The Kent rider said that prior track knowledge wasn’t a problem and that he felt that he could of put in better times if it wasn’t for set up problems.

“The track’s not an issue. The problems are in the corners. Basically we can’t get it turning mid-corner, when I get on the gas it wants to head into the gravel. Another tenth and I’d be fifth.”

Camier made his Aprilia debut at the last round in Magny-Cours, but due to technical problems he failed to score any points after qualifying 16th and setting the fourth fastest time in warm-up.

Team-mate Max Biaggi starts from sixth spot for tomorrow’s race.
