Leon Haslam to take part in Rallycross this weekend

Leon Haslam is set to take part in the Mirror.co.uk Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross championship race at Mallory park this Sunday.

Haslam is currently competing in the World Superbike Championship with Stiggy Honda and is making the move to Alstare Suzuki for 2010.

During a PR event for Suzuki Haslam met with members of the Bill Gwynn rally school and impressed them with his driving skills, it was then he was invited to take part in race driving the brand new Suzuki Swift.

Haslam said: “I’m over the moon with this new opportunity. I think it will be really good fun. I was down in Banbury doing a PR event and playing around in some buggies when I was asked to take part in the Rallycross, I was delighted to be given the chance. Its something new and different for me and it’s at Mallory Park which is right on my door step.”

John Ward, Mallory Park’s General Manager said: “I’m really pleased that Leon is joining us. It is a good crossover of disciplines and will bring in some interest from the bike world too. I imagine he is pretty handy in a car so I don’t think he will let the side down.”

The event will be televised live on MotorsTV (Sky 413, Virgin 545) from 12 noon until 4.00pm.
