Racing Engineering wrap up troubled test

1 Mins read

Racing Engineering drivers Sam Bird and Jérôme d’Ambrosio rounded out a troubled week for the Spanish team, at last managing to complete some consistent running on the last day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit.

The team had been struggling with engine woes in the first two days, plus Charles Pic had his best time on Day 2 stripped after being underweight, but Bird managed to set competitive times and replicate the 3rd place he managed on Tuesday with ART Grand Prix.

D’Ambrosio on the other hand couldn’t get the most out of his tyres, yet still managed 4th in the morning session.

“It’s been an enjoyable day,” said Bird. “I liked working with all the guys at Racing Engineering. We worked hard on the set up throughout the day and in the afternoon we landed up third after a difficult morning. Overall, I am pleased with the result.”

D’Ambrosio was similarly complimentary about the 2008 GP2 champions, looking to make a switch from his 2009 team DAMS.

“Overall, the day was really good,” he said. “We had a very good morning and set the time with used tyres. In the afternoon, we tested some different things, but didn’t get what we expected on new tyres. I am happy with the day in general.”

Bird’s English compatriot James Jakes topped the times once again for Super Nova Racing, setting a 1:12.516 laptime in the morning session.

“We've had two really good days, shame we weren't up there on the first day, but I think we managed to prove ourselves on the following days,” he said. “The car felt good, and ready for next year which is great!”
