Rebellion Racing has confirmed their line up for the 2010 Le Mans 24 hour race. The Swiss team have signed Guy Smith to pilot the #13 Lola-Rebellion LMP1 in the 78th edition of the classic race.
Smith, who won the Le Mans race in 2003, will reinforce the team, which already has Andrea Belicchi and Jean Christophe-Boullion signed for this year's event.
With the signing of Guy Smith alongside Belichhi and Boullion, the #13 Lola-Rebellion car has 3 very experienced racers at the wheel, and the team are once again demonstrating its ambition for success at Le Mans.
Guy will join Belichhi and Boullion with the team for the season opener at Paul Ricard, for the 8 hour race there over the 9th to 11th April, to help prepare the #13 squads competitiveness in this race, and to be better prepared ahead of the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Guy will drive the car for the first time during the Le Mans test days at the Paul Ricard High Tech Test Track on the 7th and 8th March, and will have a seat fitting at the Rebellion Racing workshop, where he will meet the technical team as well.
Guy had this to say about the announcement: “I think that Rebellion Racing are one of the most exciting and ambitious teams in sportscar racing today. The team has evolved over the last few years and has firmly established itself as one of the top teams in Le Mans type Racing.”
“I am familiar with the Lola coupe chassis as it is similar to the one I race in the American Le Mans Series and it really is first class and combined with the new Rebellion engine I am sure we will have a fast and reliable package that will allow us to fight at the front at Le Mans as well as the Le Mans series.”
“I’m excited to be joining two great drivers in Jean-Christophe Boullion and Andrea Belicchi. Having raced Jean-Christophe over the years I know that he is one of the world’s best sportscar drivers. I first raced Andrea when we were 16 in karts and we had some great battles, he has developed into a very fast sportscar driver too.”
