Ginetta G50 Cup 2010 Round 1 – Thruxton: Race 2 – Huff and Wrathall again

1 Mins read

The second race of the Ginetta G50 Cup season saw the same outcome as per the first race, with Rob Huff and Frank Wrathall pulling out a clear advantage over the chasing pack, and showing that Wrathall could be the driver to beat in 2010.

The race, however, saw a horrific accident for series debutant Dan Denis, who left the circuit with a broken collarbone and damaged vertebrae after going off at the fastest corner in UK Motorsport, Church. Denis put a wheel out on the grass on the fourth lap and slid head on into a earth bank on the outside of the circuit, writing off his teams brand new G50 after going from 135mph to stationary in 2 seconds.

The safety car neutralised the race for a number of laps while the marshals and safety team crew recovered Denis from the wreckage.

Once Denis had been recovered, the safety car pulled in and Huff set about pulling away from Wrathall, the pair of them pulled away from the rest of the field with Huff taking the chequered flag  9 tenths of a second ahead of Wrathall, with Breeze taking his first podium finish since the second race at Silverstone last season.

Tom Sharp lost out on a top 6 finish after a last lap spin saw him cross the line in last place. Colin White took his second Chairman's Cup victory of the weekend in 10th overall.
