Ginetta G50 Cup 2010 Round 1 – Thruxton: Race 1, Huff and Wrathall Dominate

2 Mins read

Rob Huff led home a Dynojet 1-2 in the opening race of the weekend as the chasing pack couldn't live with his or team mate Frank Wrathall's pace.

Huff took the lead off the line and never looked back, while Wrathall had a look on the opening lap to make a pass, he settled down and took second on the road but points for first place as Huff wasn't scoring.

Behind the flying Dynojet pair, the action was fast and furious, with Carl Breeze making a storming recovery from 14th on the grid after qualifying to finish a fine fifth, behind Chris Dittman and Tom Sharp, Dittman coming out on top in the battle for third, making his move on lap 8 up at the Complex. Sharp instantly fought back at Dittman, trying to retake third place. The duo battled for third all race.

Further back Breeze was still on a recovery drive that left him languishing after choosing the wrong tyres in qualifying, and was up with Dittman and Sharp by the end of the 11 lap sprint race, having passed seven cars on the opening lap of the season!

Rachel Green also proved her racing capabilities with a fine sixth place during the opening round, and took the spot away from debutant Matt Bell on the run to the line at the end of the 11th and final lap of the race, Bell finishing an impressive seventh after starting outside the top 10.

Colin White took the win in the Chairman's Cup, even after he failed to acknowledge a black flag for a drive through penalty.

Speaking after the race, Huff said: “I want to say a big thank you to the team for setting the car up so well for me, it was a pleasure to drive and the Dynojet guys are a great bunch to work with. I got a fairly good start, from there I managed to get my head down, find the grip and get the win. It's really nice to be part of a BTCC weekend again and I want to thank Ginetta for the opportunity, I'm really enjoying it.”
