Cambridge based Kane Astin is set to make the move up to the ELF Renault Clio Cup this weekend as he makes his debut with JHR Developments.
The 36-year-old who’s only previous experience is in the Mini Se7en Championship takes the driving seat of the car usually occupied by series regular Fulvio Mussi.
Kane becomes the second new driver to join the series after the summer break after 19-year-old Josh Cook was announced as the latest signing for Richard Colburn’s Westbourne Motorsport team.
Although Kane has only managed limited running in the Clio he is looking forward to the weekend with a clear goal.
“I've already set myself a goal of finishing in the top 10 and I can't wait to start racing, especially on my home track which I know so well. I hadn't intended to race in the Clios this year but through a connection with JHR I heard about this opportunity and I just couldn't turn it down.”
He added: “At the moment I'm just competing at Snetterton but if things go well I'm certainly considering racing in the World Series by Renault event at Silverstone later this year.”
