Team Managers from the leading teams in the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship and the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin series have spoken positively about yesterdays announcement that Renault are renewing its three year rolling deal on the TOCA/BTCC support package. The new contract will see the series' continuing on the package until at least 2013.
Mark Hunt, Team Manager of Clio Cup team Pyro, the team behind championship leader Dave Newsham, said: “The announcement demonstrates Renault's commitment to the Clio Cup and gives all the teams competing stability and security. It should also encourage more drivers to compete in the championship – which still remains the best BTCC feeder series – and we've already had a lot of interest concerning the 2011 season.”
The Team Manager of leading Formula Renault UK team Manor Competition, Tony Shaw, said: “It's brilliant news for the championship and will undoubtedly help develop interest from those looking to race in the series next season and beyond. The BTCC is the premier motorsport package in the country with excellent television coverage and it's great that Formula Renault UK is to remain a key part of this.”
The Clio Cup is seen arguably the best one make saloon car championship in the UK, while also being the premier feeder series for the BTCC, while the Formula Renault UK is one of the best single seater championships in the country, with a distinguished history of former champions.
