Italian Edoardo Piscopo will make his GP2 main series debut at his home round at Monza this weekend, driving for Trident Racing.
Piscopo, who is currently leading the standings in Auto GP, will replace Johnny Cecotto Jr at the team. He tested for the team last winter and also raced for DAMS in the 2009/10 GP2 Asia Series, where he scored a best result of fifth.
The 22-year-old said “I'm really happy to make my GP2 Series debut with Trident Racing at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. The track is really special to me, as I've always finished on the podium there in junior open-wheel competition. I have to thank my father who has made this possible. My goal is to improve as the weekend progresses, and try and make my way to the points. I know it won't be easy since I have less experience than most of the field.”
Meanwhile, Piscopo's Auto GP title rival and DAMS teammate Romain Grosjean will continue to deputise for the injured Ho-Pin Tung in the French team's GP2 squad at Monza. He has also joined the Gravity Sports Management organisation, run by Renault F1 co-owner Gerard Lopez.
