Dave Newsham makes the switch to the Ginetta G50 cup this weekend taking to the wheel of the guest car having already wrapped up the Elf Renault Clio Cup championship.
Newsham has dominated the Clio Cup this year and had hoped to make his BTCC debut this weekend in a view to taking part in a full BTCC season next year. A decision was made however to conserve budget and race in the G50 Cup, saving money ready for next year.
“We’re working hard on the BTCC for next year” said Newsham to Autosport.
I’ve been offered this Ginetta drive, which is free, so I couldn’t not do it really. The only investment I’ve made is in a new set of tyres for Friday practice, so I can learn what they do.
“I’ll need to heel and toe, which is a new technique for me to learn, but the guest drivers have done well this year so I want to be up there. I’d be really happy with top-fives.”
Friday testing saw Newsham finish eleventh in the morning session before finishing seventh in the afternoon.
Following the weekend Newsham will head to Barcelona to take part in a Renault Megane Trophy test – his prize for winning the Clio Cup.
