The organisers of the GP2 Series have revealed the calendar for the fourth GP2 Asia Series. The 2011 season will be made up of three rounds, all in the Middle East, with one round at Abu Dhabi followed by two in Bahrain.
The Asia series will see the competitive debut of the new GP2 Series car, which the teams will get the chance to shakedown at Circuit Paul Ricard on November 18. The cars will then be shipped to the Middle East for two pre-season tests at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit at the beginning of February.
The first round will take place at Yas Marina on February 11-12. The second round will take place at Bahrain one week later, before the championship concludes at Bahrain in support of the opening Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season on March 12-13. The series will also see the arrival of two new teams; Carlin and Team Air Asia.
GP2 Asia Series CEO Bruno Michel said: “It is true that this season.s calendar is particularly short due to the fact that we have a new car to deliver to our teams. It will be the first that we use the same car for both GP2 Asia and GP2 Series, and it will definitely be an exciting new season: not only will we have a new car, new tyres, new drivers, but also two new teams with Carlin and Team Air Asia joining us. Since the beginning of the GP2 Asia Series, we have seen great races and I am confident that this coming season will provide us with the same quality show. It will be exciting for everyone to see how quickly teams and drivers will adapt to the new car and tyres!”
