Positive Croft Weekend For Hillspeed

1 Mins read

Hillspeed's pair of Ginetta Junior drivers delivered some impressive race performances in Rounds Nine and Ten of the 2011 campaign at Croft. Championship leader Seb Morris gained two top five finishes from lowly grid positions, while rookie team-mate Struan Moore delivered his most impressive performance of the season so far.

15 year old Morris endured a difficult qualifying session, left rueing a decision to pit for wet weather tyres mid-session. With the conditions improving, he was left struggling to eleventh and fourteenth on the grid for the two races.

For 16 year old Moore, his first taste of the Yorkshire circuit came in Saturdays warm up, after being forced to miss Friday testing for an important school exam at home in Jersey. Therefore he did well to secure a seventh row grid start for both races.

In the first race, Morris produced a sensational opening lap to climb into the top three, before challenging for second place at mid distance. However on the final lap, Morris lost out to William Foster and had to settle for fourth place. Moore meanwhile quickly moved into the top ten and took eighth position at the finish.

The second race saw Morris up to sixth on the opening lap, but contact when challenging for fifth saw him drop back outside the top ten. He recovered to take fifth place, setting the race's fastest lap. For Moore, the race to produce his career best finish, with a mature drive through the midfield runners seeing him take seventh place.

Hillspeed's Team Principal Richard Ollerenshaw said: “Qualifying didn't go at all well for Seb but he most certainly redeemed himself in both races, he drove very well and without some questionable driving from some of the others I'm sure he'd have been able to achieve a couple of podiums.

“Not only can we win from pole and lead from the front, Seb showed we can race our way through cleanly as well. Struan has massively impressed us this weekend, he did an absolutely outstanding job and especially when you bear in mind he'd never seen Croft before. With no testing, he went straight into the weekend and did an exceptional job, doubling his points tally – fantastic!”
