Second Podium Of The Season For Robertson

1 Mins read

Charlie Robertson enjoyed a successful run in the latest rounds of the 2011 Ginetta Junior Championship, taking a second place in Round Seven before producing a superb recovery drive to fourth place in Round Eight.

The HHC Motorsport driver qualified fourth fastest for the weekends first race, just 0.066s off a front row berth. The Whyteleafe-based driver gained a place before the race start when a rival pitted with mechanical woes and held third place early on, before moving into second at the hairpin on lap four and pulling clear to take his second podium of the year.

Sunday's race saw intermittent showers make tyre choice vital. Robertson went with 'intermediate' part-worn treaded rubber and started well, but on the second corner he was pitched off circuit, luckily avoiding the gravel trap.

He recovered to the track and set about mounting a superb fight back through the order, getting into the top ten by lap four. He entered the final lap in sixth place, but managed to take two more places on the last tour to finish fourth. The result sees the Surrey youngster move up to fourth in the championship, just twelve points off the top three.

Charlie, who at just 14 years and five months is the youngest racer on the entire Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support package, said: “We've had a really strong weekend, second place and then fourth as well are good results and I'm hopeful we can go even better during the next rounds. It was a shame I got tagged in the second race, it was just first lap action really.

“Luckily I managed to keep the car going and get back on track. I had to make my way back through, picking people off one by one, but my tyres did seem to hold on more than some of the others so that helped a lot. I'm really pleased with the results, thanks to the team for giving me a great car.”
