Babini Extends Super Trofeo Lead In Spa Rain

2 Mins read

Fabio Babini extended his lead at the top of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Pro-Cup Standings with a dominant display in Round Ten at a rain-soaked Spa-Francorchamps.

Babini and co-driver Matteo Zucchi led from pole to claim their fourth victory of the season and strengthen their claim for end of season honours.

Gerard Tweraser and Filip Sladecka clinched second place after Luigi Ferrara was forced to retire on the final lap of the grueling seven-kilometre circuit. Rounding off the podium was Gianluca Carboni and Riccardo Ragazzi.

In Round 11 the maiden race winners from Paul Ricard in France two weeks ago, Gravity-Charouz Racing, continued their good form with Erik Janis capitalising on pit-lane confusion for the leaders to hit the front before handing over to 20-year-old team-mate Jakub Knoll to take the flag.

Third place from the earlier race turned into second for Carboni and Ragazzi and Pro-Am racer Herve Leimer took his first podium of the year.

Typical Spa weather made it an exciting race and race two winner Janis was delighted with the car setup that the team had delivered when it mattered.

He said: “It was a pretty good return to the series for me! We had good pace as we'd made some changes since this morning's race.

“We were unlucky then and got a puncture so when it was my turn to get in the car there wasn't enough time to improve our position. But this race was much better.”
