Laverty Looking For Famous Home Victory at Silverstone

1 Mins read

Eugene Laverty is hoping to repeat his heroics of twelve months ago and claim victory when the World Superbike Championship heads to Silverstone next weekend.

The Irishman beat Kenan Sofuoglu to the Supersport win last year in what he has described as the “best victory of his career” and now returns to Northamptonshire as part of Yamaha's factory World Superbike squad.

Laverty has impressed in his rookie WSBK campaign, no more so than when he defeated the likes of Max Biaggi and teammate Marco Melandri to win both races at the historic circuit.

But the other British-based event didn't pan out favourably for him as he crashed in Superpole and only collected a couple of points on race day. That disappointment has served to inspire Laverty, and he is desperate to bounce back on a circuit he expects to favour him.

Having two rounds in the UK this season is great as I get another bite at the cherry. I’ve really been looking forward to Silverstone after I suffered a dreadful home round at the start of the year. Silverstone is one of my favourite circuits on the calendar, following the best victory of my career in the World Supersport category there last season.”

“The fast nature of the track really suits my style and there are many passing opportunities if it comes down to a last lap fight. The start/finish line has been moved for 2011, so I’m going to have to rethink my race strategy.  Last year I made my race-winning overtake into Abbey on the last lap, but it’s now the first corner which changes things quite a bit.  I’m looking forward to the new challenge though and I’d love nothing more than to walk away with a victory, or two, at my home round.

Tickets are still available with advance tickets starting from just £20. Paddock and Pit Lane passes also available to purchase in advance. For further information, or to book tickets, visit www.silverstone.co.uk or call 0844 3728 260.
