Dean Smith's GP3 campaign has been cut short, having been replaced at Addax by Vittorio Ghirelli for the season finale at Monza.
Having suffered from a lack of funding, Smith has been driving for Addax on a race-by-race deal. His situation was helped by a strong first half of the season, where he finished in the points in six of the first eight races, scoring two podium finishes.
However, he has struggled for results in the previous three meetings since Silverstone and as a result of this the team have not retained him for the final rounds.
His replacement, 17-year-old Ghirelli, had been competing for Jenzer Motorsport but chose to leave the team ahead of the previous round at Spa-Francorchamps. He returns to the series for his home race with Addax, having tested for the Spanish squad at Jerez last October. After recording three top ten finishes earlier in the season he will hope to pick up his first points on home soil. He joins Tom Dillmann and Gabby Chaves in the team’s lineup.
