iSport International have announced that Marcus Ericsson will continue to race for the team in the 2012 GP2 Series season. Meanwhile, GP3 graduate Tom Dillmann will line up alongside the Swede for the Norfolk squad at the forthcoming non-championship GP2 Final race at Abu Dhabi.
Ericsson joined iSport at the start of 2011 for his second year in GP2, scoring podium finishes at Barcelona and Silverstone on his way to tenth in the final standings.
He recently joined the team for one day of testing at Barcelona, posting the fastest time of the day.
“I couldn't be happier,” said Ericsson. “iSport is a great team and with the support from my sponsors and the continuity from last year I feel confident we will be competitive to challenge for the championship.”
Team principal Paul Jackson said: “Having seen Marcus develop in to a real front runner in 2011, everyone at iSport are delighted to have Marcus on board for yet another season in which we are hoping to challenge for the title.”
Dillmann tested for iSport at Barcelona on the same day as Ericsson, setting the fastest time of the afternoon. The Frenchman raced in GP3 this year after winning the German F3 title and took a pole position and podium finish at the season opener in Turkey in what became a one-off appearance for Carlin. He later reappeared for Addax and scored three further points finishes during the year, ending up 14th in the classification.
“Tom has shown great pace and capacity to learn in the recent tests and has demonstrated that he is ready to move up from the GP3 Series,” said Jackson. “As a GP3 graduate, he is eligible for the special prize fund and we will be hoping to help him secure a share of that.”
The 2011 GP2 Final takes place on the weekend of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit on 12/13 November.
