The Lotus 1000km Race Will Take Place In The Darkness At Brands

Brands Hatch is set to host the second running of the Lotus 1000km event this Saturday, with British Touring Car star Paul O'Neill returning to defend his crown.

The reborn event runs to the rules of MSVR's Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup series and will feature prominent names in British motorsport, like former Lotus F1 driver Martin Donnelly and ex-BTCC racers O'Neill, Phil Bennett and Eugene O'Brien. O'Neill will share a car with series regulars BJ Chong and Paul McNeily and will be looking for another great race, after 2010 saw him embroiled in a 90 minute duel with the GWS Motorsport Exige.

O'Neill said: “It was a spectacular event that I had to leave early for the Touring Car awards. So it’s nice to be back at the track and to do it again this year. At last year's race I had the opportunity to do as well as I could, but at the same time it was good to give the other guys a chance to drive in their own car. It ended up really well for us and was a good battle in tricky conditions – I enjoyed it.”

To win again, O'Neill will have to overcome some stiff competition, including the Lotus Motorsport-entered Evora GT, piloted by Gavan Kershaw and Stuart Hall. Also racing will be former European GT Champion Sean Edwards and Ramon Pineiro, who came third in this year's Formula Two Championship.

With qualifying taking place on Friday 4 November in the dark, the race starts at 9:05 the following day and will be completed at dusk.
