David Fumanelli has been announced as the first driver in MW Arden's lineup for the 2012 GP3 Series season.
The Italian, 19, has been signed by the team after impressing in testing at Jerez at the end of last season. On his first day in the car he was second quickest during the opening morning session, before setting the pace by nearly half a second in the afternoon. He was then in the top five in both of the sessions on the second day.
Fumanelli comes to GP3 after finishing runner-up in the European F3 Open. He had a steady start to his season in the Spanish-based series, but came on strong in the second half by winning a race at each of the last four meetings.
“I’m really excited to be part of 2012 MW Arden line-up,” said Fumanelli. “I have really been impressed by the way the team worked in the two days in Jerez. I wanted to join a winning team and MW Arden is really the best choice for sure, considering their previous results in GP3, but also in the other championships. I am sure this year will be successful for both of us and I can’t wait for the start of the season.”
Julian Rouse of Arden added: “We are all really excited to have David as part of the team in 2012. He showed a huge amount of potential when he tested with us in Jerez and was a pleasure to work with. I am confident that he can be very competitive right from the very start of the season.”
