Marlon Stockinger will race for Status Grand Prix in the GP3 Series this year, the Silverstone-based team has confirmed.
The Filipino-Swiss driver stepped up to GP3 last season from Formula Renault UK with Atech CRS, but he failed to score any points during the year.
Stockinger tested for Status during the post-season tests in Spain, and after regularly being towards the top end of the timesheets, he has now been taken on by the team as the first of its drivers for the 2012 campaign.
“I'm glad that I will be racing with Status GP in 2012,” said Stockinger, 20. “The winter tests went very well and we were always consistently in the top five, which is crucial in such a competitive championship as GP3. I have no doubt that the team and I can put together a strong campaign, and we'll be looking to run at the top of the field.”
Team principal Teddy Yip added: “Marlon showed well in testing, and we fully expect him to be challenging at the front of the field this year. Experience also counts in the GP3 Series, and going into his second year Marlon is consistent and knows how to get the best out of the car and tyres. We're delighted to welcome him to the team.”
