The Ginetta Challenge Is Re-Branded As the Ginetta GT5 Challenge For 2012
For the 2012 season, the formerly named Ginetta Challenge has seen a significant re-brand, with the announcement of Total Lubricants as a title sponsor seeing the series now called the 'Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge'.
The addition of 'GT5' within the championship name showcases the Challenge's position in Ginetta's ladder of sportscar racing, prior to GT4 and GT3 racing.
The 2012 Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge will take place over seven triple-header race weekends, resulting in a 21 race season. The series is receiving strong interest ahead of the new season, with over twenty cars already signed up across its three classes. The series caters for both Ginetta G40 and G20 race cars, as well as a G40 'Roadsports' Class for G40 road cars running in road car specification and on treaded tyres.
General Manager of Ginetta Cars, Simon Finnis said: “The G40 car that races in the GT5 Challenge is very much a mini GT car. The chassis and suspension geometry both closely resemble that of the G50, G55 and G55 GT3 cars, giving the car that GT feel. Introducing “GT5” into the name of the Championship merely demonstrates that stepping stone that we have put in place.”
Max Gregory, Championship Co-ordinator commented: “We are delighted with the interest in the Championship this year, and to be able to announce a partnership with a company as world renowned as Total is a real asset to the Championship.”
Lucy Pimblott, Automotive Marketing Executive at Total Lubricants, added: “We are thrilled to be involved with Ginetta and to be the title sponsor for the Ginetta GT5 Championship. 2012 is already shaping up to be an exciting year in GT racing and we look forward to being a part of it.”
