Jon Kirkham will return to British Superbike action at Snetterton this weekend after missing the last two races at Oulton Park. The Derby rider, who won the opening race of the season last month, has endured a tough time since and crashed heavily in the first race at Oulton two weeks ago. Having recovered from concussion, Kirkham is eager to re-join the fray as he looks to recover lost ground in the championship standings.

“Over the Oulton Park weekend we were making progress apart from lap nine of race one! That was a shame for me as it had started quite well but Snetterton should be good for me and I am looking forward to getting back out on the Samsung Honda. I want to get back inside the top six in the standings and claw some points back that we lost at the previous round.”

Samsung Honda teammate Michael Laverty has scored regular points but with a best finish of just sixth place, the Ulsterman finds himself 13 points shy of the showdown positions. Laverty is mindful that he needs to start making progress up the order and hopes to start the ascent this weekend.

“I am really determined for the Snetterton races this weekend, the team have a strong history of results there and we know what we are capable of. We have used the time between rounds to have a look at things to improve and we want to turn things around in the two races on Sunday.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran admits it is a crucial weekend if they are to remain in contention for the Showdown and expects a strong performance from his riders.

“In the past Snetterton has been one of the tracks that the Honda Fireblade has performed well. Michael showed he had a good pace in the pre-season test there and this really is a weekend where he can turn his championship around, after a couple of disappointing rounds. It is great that we have JK back this weekend after his huge crash at Oulton Park and he really has his sights set on getting himself inside the top six again. The whole of the Samsung Honda team are motivated and ready for the weekend.”
