Petter Solberg and the WRC Fiesta will be at Castle Combe on August 18

Former World Rally champion and current factory Ford driver Petter Solberg has been confirmed as the star turn for Rallyday 2012 at Castle Combe (August 18).

The Norwegian will demonstrate his Castrol Edge sponsored Ford Fiesta RS WRC at the event, the UK's premier Rally Show.

“I'm really looking forward to attending Rallyday 2012,” said Solberg. “Everybody knows how passionate I am about this sport, and to be surrounded by so many legendary cars and drivers will just be awesome! I also can't wait to put on a spectacular show for the fans in my Ford Fiesta RS WRC. It looks like being a really fantastic day.”

Solberg, who is 18 points behind current championship leader Sebastien Loeb, will the latest in a succession of Ford WRC drivers to make a Rallyday appearance following on from Matthew Wilson, Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikko Hirvonen. Solberg's presence at the event also continues Castrol's connection with the event.

“It is great Petter is back with Ford this year in the World Rally Championship and to have him appear at Rallyday for the first time is going to be fantastic,” said Darin Frow, one of the event's organisers. “We'd also like to thank Castrol again for their continued support too. This year's event is shaping up very well and we have some exciting developments in the pipeline.”

Solberg's Fiesta will give fans the chance to get up close to a current generation WRC car besides iconic machinery from the Group B era of rallying and other historic rally cars.

The Race2Recovery team – a squad comprised mainly of injured service personnel will also be at the event, returning after joining Rallyday in 2011.
