Brands Hatch Finale: Renault Clio Cup Preview

1 Mins read

Jack Goff and Paul Rivett will battle it out for the 2012 AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK in the final rounds of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Goff heads into the final rounds on top, having led the championship all season so far, though a strong run of form for Rivett means the former triple champion is just three points adrift heading to Kent.

Rivett (Stancombe Vehicle Engineering) has out-scored Goff (Team Pyro) on the last three weekends in a row, a trend that Goff must stop if he is to secure a maiden title.

The championship protagonists came to blows last time out at Silverstone, with contact in the opening race leading to lowly seventh (Rivett) and eleventh (Goff) place finishes. Goff went on to take fourth in the second encounter, while Rivett bounced back with a podium in second, ensuring he has the momentum heading into Brands as he looks for a landmark fourth title.

Also heading to Brands on form and full of confidence is Josh Cook. The rookie stormed to a stunning double win at Silverstone, his first wins in the championship, something he will be hoping to replicate at Brands.

One to watch at Brands Hatch will be local racer James Dixon. A strong run of four podiums in the last six races has all but cemented him third in the championship, however a race win has proved elusive so far this season. He’ll be hoping to taste success at his home circuit and has will be confident having won three times at Brands in the past in the Clios, albeit not on the GP layout.

Team Pyro team-mates Adam Bonham and Josh Files have both tasted podium success on a number of occasions this season, but are still chasing their first win of the season, as is Westbourne Motorsport’s Ant Whorton-Eales, with all three sure to be in the hunt for wins at Brands.
