Kevin Ceccon was once again the fastest driver on the second day of the GP3 Series post-season test at Jerez.
The MW Arden driver was second quickest in the wet morning session behind series newcomer and fellow Italian Emanuele Zonzini of Trident Racing. Nick Cassidy was third for Status Grand Prix ahead of the second Trident machine of Roman de Beer. David Fumanelli (Arden) and Alex Fontana (Jenzer Motorsport) were next ahead of the Marussia Manor Racing pairing of Patryk Szczerbinski and Tio Ellinas, with Lotus GP duo Robert Visoiu and Giovanni Venturini rounding out the top ten.
Miki Monras was 11th with Atech CRS ahead of Arden rookie Melville McKee, Status’ Miki Weckstrom and third Marussia man Nicolas Costa. 15th was Vittorio Ghirelli on his GP3 return with Lotus ahead of Samin Gomez (Jenzer), Jordan Oon (Atech CRS), Josh Webster (Carlin) and Ryan Cullen (Status). British F3 champion Jack Harvey had switched from Lotus to Carlin, but only managed one lap before an oil leak that caused a red flag.
The majority of the afternoon session took place in dry conditions, with Ceccon taking advantage to finish a second clear of fellow 2012 season driver Ellinas. Costa again put in another impressive performance to finish up third ahead of fellow standout newcomers de Beer, Cassidy and McKee. Venturini, Harvey, Ghirelli and Monras completed the top ten.
Zonzini, Fumanelli and Szczerbinski were next up, with Webster 14th, Weckstrom 15th and Fontana 16th. Visoiu, Oon, Gomez and Cullen completed the 20 runners.
The teams will be back in action for the second and final post-season test at Estoril in Portugal on 6-7 November.
