Smith Matches Career-Best At Silverstone

1 Mins read

Rob Smith has moved himself into contention for a top twelve championship finish in the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK after matching his career-best result during the latest rounds at Silverstone.

After qualifying a much improved twelfth on the grid for the opening race, the 20 year old put together one of the strongest races of his debut campaign to finish ninth. He coupled this with a fourteenth place finish from eighteenth on the grid in race two, moving him up to sixteenth in the championship standings, just fifteen points away from the top twelve.

“It’s been a good weekend”, said Rob, “We’ve definitely had much better pace, we’re much closer to the front guys and our lap times were very competitive so I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made. We know what we’ve done to improve so hopefully we can carry it forward to the final two rounds at Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks.”
