A new name in sportscar racing will make its first appearance in competition at the 51st Rolex 24 at Daytona (January 26-27).
Formed from the Horton Autosport team Park Place Motorsports will enter a single Porsche in the race for a five man driving line-up led by Porsche factory driver Patrick Long, a three time class champion in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in Porsches and a class winner at the 2009 edition of the Rolex 24 – also with the German manufacturer.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for the group Park Place Motorsports has assembled for the Rolex 24,” Long said. “There are a ton of familiar faces on the crew and I’ve raced with my co-drivers wheel-to-wheel on numerous occasions. My first test with the team was last month and things couldn’t have gone smoother. This is will be my 10th Rolex 24 in succession and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them for different reasons.”
Similarly experienced in Porsches is Spencer Pumpelly, twice a winner in the GT class of the Rolex 24. With Long and Pumpelly, Daniel Graeff makes his fifth Rolex 24 start. Jason Hart and Patrick Lindsey – a regular driver with Horton Autosport in their 2012 debut in the Rolex Series – complete the team for the race.
Graeff is one of the founding drivers of Racing4Research, a fundraising scheme for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. At the Rolex 24 last season Graeff and his team raised $600,000 for the cause as well as helping raise awareness of Neurofibromatosis, the illness with Racing4Research helps fund studies in search of new treatments and a cure.
“This marks our sixth year with the expansion of the Children’s Tumor Foundation’s reach, marketing and fundraising efforts through Racing4Research, and to have this sort of driver line-up is amazing,” said Graeff. “Patrick Long’s name speaks for itself. He is one of the greats, but also Patrick Lindsey, founder of this team, absolutely blew my mind with how good he is, as is Jason Hart. All of us mesh together really well, and when you add in Spencer Pumpelly, it’s a very solid lineup.”
