Sean Walkinshaw and Cameron Twynham have announced their graduation into the Euro Formula 3 Open series for 2013 with Corby-based Team West-Tec.
Walkinshaw brings a varied back catalogue of single-seater racing with him into Euro F3. The 19 year old has competed primarily in Formula Renault BARC and Intersteps, while also making occasional appearances in the JK Racing and Indian MRF Championships, and a one-off double-winning appearance in the MSV F3 Cup at Anglesey earlier this year.
“It’s great to have confirmed our plans for next year so early,” said Walkinshaw. “I’ve already tested with West-Tec and it all went really well, the guys are great to work with, so I can’t wait to get our winter program underway. Euro F3 Open really has become one of the best Formula 3 championships around over the last few years, it’s very competitive and a fantastic place to learn and develop as a driver. F3 is the right step for me after two years in Formula Renault, plus we’ll be racing on some great international tracks.”
16 year old Twynham meanwhile is preparing to race outside the UK for the first time, having made his car-racing debut in 2012, racing in Intersteps through the main season, before ending it with an appearance in the Formula Renault BARC Winter Series.
“I am extremely excited about racing in the Euro F3 Open Championship next year,” added Twynham. “It is going to be a whole new challenge for me that I will be making the most of and bringing home the best results possible. I cannot wait to get out on track this coming season and I am very grateful to be able to have this opportunity with Team West-Tec, to experience the European tracks.”
Both drivers will drive Copa Class F308 Dallara’s in 2013, with West-Tec likely to run one more F308 alongside a similar number of the latest-generation F312 cars.
